Beautiful Midwife

Image
Marie Frey, passed this September.. She was Birth midwife for my little Ryder James two years ago..Her crossing has brought back memories, some fond, some challenging.. Marie was a creative thinker..she kept having me switch 'pushing positions' until the 'Key'(his head) fit through the 'lock''(my Birth canal!) She also suggested that Anthony get in the bed with me..He was behind me supporting me as I found the position to best birth my boy, Ryder ..beautiful.. She was so compassionate too…When me, hubby, and baby were separated after the birth, there was a (3 hour!) gap between my birth-time and the time when I could be in a recovery room w/baby..(Due to an understaffed “transport” dept.) Marie offered to take me herself in the wheelchair to the post partum floor..the nurses wouldn’t allow it..but still.. These things meant a lot to me as I was a crying hormonal feral mama all alone in that delivery room...I am grateful for her compassion and expert

How to be a Good Friend to a Postpartum Goddess

Image
The Postpartum period for a new mama is crucial.. Ideally her house is clean, her sheets and pj's smell yummy, there is plently of comforting foods and fresh fruits in the fridge... Any visitors that come should bring her food, visit a short while, and clean something.  Folding laundry, or playing with her other kids is fine too.. Everyone that passes new-momma-goddess on the couch or bed should ask her if she needs anything. If she says no, go get her some water. She's really busy adjusting to her new role as mother (of 1, 2, 3, or 4 etc. children) She's figuring out how her baby feels constantly..(hungry, tired, cold, scared, comfortable, curious) Her hormones are wacking out.. She needs help and doesn't want to ask you (or yell at you, or cry while she's talking) Her boobs are taking up alot of space. (in her mind, in her baby's mind, in her husband's mind, in the bed, in her bra)...maybe ask, "how are the girls?" Can you o

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Using 1/2 tbsp butter, grease a 9-inch springform pan & line bottom with parchment paper. Cover pan underneath & along sides with foil and set it in a roasting pan. Bring a medium saucepan of water to boil. Comibine the chocolate, butter & Kahlua either in a metal bowl or use the top of a double boiler & set it on top of the simmering water. Melt the mixture, stirring until smooth & crealy, about 5 minutes. Reserve. In another bowl, combine eggs, sugar, van

In Praise of Dance

Image
I PRAISE THE DANCE... I praise the dance, for it frees people from the heaviness of matter and binds the isolated to community. I praise the dance, which demands everything: health and a clear spirit and a buoyant soul. Dance is a transformation of space, of time, of people, who are in constant danger of becoming all brain, will, or feeling. Dancing demands a whole person, one who is firmly anchored in the center of his life, who is not obsessed by lust for people and things and the demon of isolation in his own ego. Dancing demands a freed person, one who vibrates with the equipoise of all his powers. I praise the dance. O (wo)man, learn to dance, or else the angels in heaven will not know what to do with you... -- Saint Augustine
